Registered Veterinary Technician

Heather

Hi, I’m Heather, and I joined the team at Mitchell Animal Hospital in 2025!  I have worked full time in veterinary clinics (both Primary Care and Emergency) since 2009. I graduated from Thompson Rivers University’s Veterinary Technology program in 2014, and became registered soon after.

Hospice and palliative care is my special interest, and I am in the process of becoming certified as a Hospice and Palliative Care Technician through the International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care. I had to make end of life decisions for my heart-cat, Aidan, following a long journey through chronic illness. Through my grief, I found a passion for helping others navigate these incredibly difficult times in their lives. Whether it’s brainstorming ideas to increase your pet’s comfort, helping you asses quality of life, answering your questions, or just being an ear to listen, this is the part of my job that fulfills me the most.

I try to make every patient’s visit to the clinic as positive as possible. I am certified as a Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional and a Fear Free Veterinary Professional (Level 3). With both of these certifications under my belt, I have lots of ideas and tricks up my sleeve to help reduce your pet’s fear, anxiety, and stress when coming to the clinic, and I LOVE sharing my knowledge with clients and colleagues. I am always happy to help, so please feel free to reach out to me at the clinic!

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family. I share my home with my husband and our three children. I have two Domestic Shorthair cats, Marlin and Orca, and an American Paint Horse named Commander. My favourite hobbies are reading, gardening, and horseback riding.
