The most recent piece of equipment added to our hospital is a diagnostic ultrasound unit.  This piece of computerized machinery allows the operator to examine deep inside the patient's body without surgery.  Applications that can be performed with ultrasonography include: examination and measurement of internal organs or tumors,  pregnancy diagnosis and guidance for taking organ biopsies.
	Patients benefit greatly from ultrasonography since there is little or virtually no recovery time from an ultrasound procedure.  For example, a patient having an exploratory surgery to search for an abdominal tumor may take days in hospital to recover whereas patients being assessed with an ultrasound would likely be home with their owners the same day.
